Tapestry FAQ

Aren’t tapestries too heavy?
No! They are amazingly lightweight. This really surprised me when I first started working with contemporary jacquard tapestries. One of our 4’ x 6’ tapestries weighs just over 3 lbs. and folds up to 10" x 14" x 4". Only 2 nails are required to hold the weight of the tapestry plus the rod.

Why tapestries? (The practical side)
Tapestries are an amazing way to add drama and quality to an environment, whether it’s a home, a corporate space, hospital, or hotel (or for that matter, a community center, restaurant, theater, airport, yacht, sports arena, city hall, museum…). Any size can be created, they are easily shipped and unbreakable, and will soften otherwise cold-looking walls both visually and acoustically. Also terrific for earthquake territory!

Why tapestries? (The inspirational side)
Their fascination lies in the fact that the design is made from interwoven colored yarns rather than applied to the surface. The seemingly infinite possible combinations of the 6-color warp yarns and two-color weft yarns provide a rich palette that’s tactile, welcoming and visually exciting. The process is an intriguing blend of painting, digital interpretation, and hands-on analysis of woven samples. In other words, the transformations of paint to pixels to interwoven yarns is magical!

How do I know if a tapestry will look good in my space?
I’d be willing to bet you will be blown away by how great a real tapestry looks in your space – the impact of the scale, texture and color is outstanding. If you would like more concrete evidence, there are two ways to go. 1) Send us a photo of your space and we will digitally add the tapestry to the room (this is a free service!). The other is to have us print a facsimile of the tapestry, full size, on cotton fabric, which we send to you to tack up on the wall as a prototype. This costs between $200 and $300, depending on the size.
